Default Stock Radio Antenna

While looking at some CHP pics this afternoon, I noticed that some or most cars did not have the stock radio antenna. Was it an option to delete? And a blank plate installed? Maybe that is why mine has this goofy shorty, spring like, antenna.

I'd like to install the whip antenna on the quarter panel and use that for radio reception. And then get rid of the goofy antenna up front, it that is the case.

Yes, I know the radio was deleted. My question is about the stock antenna. Was it there or not from the factory?

Could I use the whip antenna for AM/FM radio reception?
