Personally, if I were in your situation, I'd find a much-newer and more disposable Crown Vic and use it. My thoughts exactly. Why put an antique and not so easily replaced vehicle at such risk? And by the way, I worked for a national heavy civil construction firm for a number of years and can tell you first hand that collisions in highway work zones, esp. at night, were frighteningly frequent. States where we experienced high numbers included Texas...
