Stock 5.0 Header Question

I have a question on the stock headers, for my 88 mustang 5.0, the car has a pair of Mac headers iam going to take off, I am just curious when I put the stock ones back on if I need to paint them or leave them unpainted? What color were they when they were new? Thanks, Brian.
