I don't have a definite preference yet, but I'm leaning towards an older NYSP car. I've done two already, both were sold to retired Troopers. But I'm open to other possibilities. I'm in a good position, I'll consider just about anything and I'm in no rush. |

Welcome to the clubhouse! I think you'll find an SSP project most satisfying. The biggest difference between one of these and a more traditional police car restoration is that being a Mustang, it will have some pretty wide appeal over a fairly wider age group too. That and you can afford to sink a bit more money into them as the values of the best finished units will support a bigger budget.

![]() This would be a fairly straight forward project and I believe the last CHP Mustang up in your area left to come back "home" a couple of years ago. |

Bill, yes I'm aware of the blue & white SMPV out there. I've met the owner and seen the car but it's still a long way from finished and I was only referring to any cars already restored and being shown at this time. There are none out there right now and I don't see any being worked on either.

We're on the same page here Michael. I just wanted to clarify things a bit. Personally, I'd love to find an '85 SMPV some day. There were only 155 SSP's bought by the CHP in 1985. For the sake of convenience, let's say the CHP reconfigured only fifteen 1985 B&W SSP's into SMPV's (which is most likely a low estimate). Doing the math, then every tenth '85 CHP found would be an SMPV (a huge simplification, I know!). The 85's do tend to surface moreso than other years for some reason. If an '85 IS found to be a SMPV (at least a 1 in 10 chance), then the next requirement would be to find the Assignment Card to verify its use as a SMPV. At present, I think my source for the Assignment Cards has only found about 18% of the cards that I've requested (which is far better than nothing!). Drat, my odds are getting worse here...
Sorry for derailing the thread. To the OP, good luck on your search! Patience can be a huge benefit to you.
