The antenna on the hood/fender is definitely, well, different.

"I didn't like all the wires running around on the dash of my car and the unit had better range on the outside of the car. I made my own "L" barcket and attached it to a fender bolt, the bracket was thin enough to fit between the hood and fender so that the hood could be opened with damaging the paint.

The wire was run along the top of the fender and down into the door hinge area then inside the car up along the edge of the dash where the it met the "A" pillar post and across the dash to the control head of the unit.

The antenna was weather proof because most of the guys with 4 door units would mount it on the back window behind the driver. I used it on the fender for some time before I made a mount that attached to the bottom of the lightbar on the left end. This proved to be better and was not as noticable as out on the fender. I was always tinkering with things to make things less cluttered and easier to work with."

I didn't know it was Marlin's car...glad he was able to pass that info along. Kinda hard to make any adjustments to the antenna with it outside the car, but I understand the logic if it were a range issue and he was working in the boonies. We would have still given him a hard time about it, though.
