I believe that the 82's had black jams and white unit #'s.

With my car, to make it that much more "correct" and original, I will finish taking the tiny slivers of the repaint off around the unit #. then will tape a rectangle around the #s to protect them from the sand paper. Also, when I paint the jam, the unit # will be taped off, and before the clear coat, I will remove the tape and lightly wet sand the paint edge smooth. That way when the clear coat is applied, I will have the original unit # and it will look like the jam hasn't been painted

It's a good thing to try for all of you with a repainted, unrestored CHP car
