Default USPS SSp's

I own the two cars Aaron once owned. The last three of the VIN on the cars he owned was 614 and 617, both silver cars with gray interiors. I also bought car 623 when it came out of service in November. It is black with gray interior. I am told the USPS had a total of 6 cars - all automatics.

As far as colors went there was 3 Black, 2 silver, and 1 blue car.

One black and one blue car is still listed for sale at Elegant Imports in LA. They have the highest milage - around 159K. Although the miles are high the Post Office does mantain their vehicle well.

You were told that the USPS had 6 SSP cars in-service total or just in LA? Also, where did the info come from?

I said that based on the information that I have. It is possible that there may have been more USPS cars, but nobody has ever mentioned them. If anyone does know of others it would be nice if they would share their information about them. Maybe this will get interesting...

Reason why I asked is because I thought that 6 or so were just sold out in CA. If so, there were many more than 6 ever in-service, as 1811 Postal Inspectors are stationed all over the country. I could see an unscrupulous or uninformed dealer putting out that info, though.

We can't rule out the thought that there may have only been 6 total cars. No others are known of or talked about. The Postal cars could be like the hand full of Saleen SSP's. Oregon declined the cars , Ford offered them to Saleen when Saleen placed an order. The Postal Service in LA may have put in a request (to the government) for cars and recieved Mustangs. I know that I have never seen a Mustang parked in a Post Office lot. My letter carrier here in NY didn't believe me when I told him of my cars til he saw the paperwork. HMMMMMMM

GSA buys any and all cars for XYZ Government agencies. As such, they dole them out, for the most part, without rhyme or reason. Requests can certainly be made, and sometimes they are fulfilled, sometimes not.

Therefore, it is highly unlikely that there were only 6 SSP cars ever issued to the USPS, and even more unlikely that ALL of them were shipped to CA. The info I has comes from not only those who do (and did) take receipt of cars from GSA, but from 1811s who drove them in many agencies (including Postal Inspectors that I personally know; not letter carriers).

Well what have your Postal Inspector friends had to say about usage ? How many do they know about ? Where were the cars located ? I know for sure there were NONE in the Northeast region.

is Aaron the guy that owned the red car that got hit when being transported. It had real low miles on it. What agency used that car?

Jeff do you have any written documentation from the government reference the number of mustangs detailed out to the USPS. Here at net we try to verify stuff before we throw it out there. I personaly find it hard to believe there were only 6. Be great if we had something concrete to base it on.

One thing we do know is the guy selling the black one hacked it and put in a five speed. I wonder if he has the original transmission?

Obviously, if I had information about numbers, locations, etc it'd be posted on this website. We're all about sharing the info here.

How do you know there were none in the NE region?

BTW...Postal Inspectors work out of office buildings, not a regular post office, so you wouldn't necessarily see a Mustang parked at a PO.

The Saleen Book: 20 Years of Saleen Mustangs is a good read, also. It talks about the dealership placing a double-order of '88 Saleens, on purpose. Oregon didn't refuse their order, they just didn't order 36 cars.

It would be nice if "we" could find out more info on the USPS cars.
One thing I know for sure is the 1990 NY SSP car I have is only one of 10 that never went into service. New York State refused it because the dealer forgot to order it with power windows and locks. Four of the ten have been destroyed as per carfax.
