So would 8383 be one of the rarest 85s?

It's rare to find that much documentation on any car much less an SMPV.
Another member has a pretty blue and white SMPV but it's an aero car.
I don't think there has ever been a confirmed four eyed SMPV.
To me they are like ghosts of a b&w that have only been seen by a select few but remain a sort of myth if you will.
Awesome cars with a highly unique history. I hope you guys find that car and bring it back to our lovely retirement community!

Sam, rarity is a relative term, and being rare does not always equate to being desirable. There's an extremely rare New Edge Mustang around here with a seldom-seen green body and a tan top. The car is rare, but the combination is butt-ugly and not many folks would ever want to own it.

In terms of 1985 SSP's, of the 155 CHP Mustangs that year, it is estimated that only 20-25 of the in-service B&W Mustangs were repainted/converted into Specially Marked Patrol Vehicles (SMPV's). This car (#E408383) is the first confirmed 1985 SMPV to surface, and the only way we know that is because the Assignment Card was found by looking for a known unit number based upon an in-service picture that turned up at the end of 2010. Finding the CHP documentation is critical for verifying a CHP Mustang as a SMPV. And Texunter is correct, other than Ken's 1989 Blue & White SMPV, no others have turned up yet. So yes Sam, this car is rare.

But there are other rare 85's out there. Rich (CHP8336) has 1 of the 3 1985 Nevada SSP's, of which one was totaled right after the NHP upfitted the car for service. So Rich's NHP is a very rare 85 SSP, but there are certainly other rare SSP's as well. If you look at other years of SSP's, there are some extremely rare cars out there.

In terms of #E408383, if I don't get in touch with the seller from 2010, I will just keep an eye out for it to surface again. Rich combs through the California listings on CL and ebay, and he promised to keep an eye out for this car. Hopefully, we can bring it back into the SSP family.

Default Car 8383

Hey guys Im new to this site and I plan on getting a CHP mustang in the near future. As for your question of area 560. I dont believe there is such an area. However, if there was it would be in southern division (southern California).

Sorry, I was reffering to 85 CHPs. But well said Bill
My dad has a magazine that has a photo of a wrecked 85-6 NHP SSP in it.
Was the wrecked test car involved in a roll over?

Thanks Bill!! I look almost every day for any 4 eye SSP cars. I hope to find 8383. I will look VERY hard for this car. I will post all 4 eye cars here as usual.
