Default '89 Louisiana SSP

Finally dropped off the '89 LSP off to get painted. I need some help with regard to the molding. In the attached pictures I came across through Google, does it appear that the molding is painted the body color?

In a couple it does. Repainted while in service?

Door tag MLDG codes for the two 1989 LSPs in the VIN Project (KF205906 and KF205913) are "XXX", which means Black. The only non-XXX code I have so far seen on SSPs was "SSS", and those were on the 1988 NYSPs. (Three-character molding codes were used from 1987 through 1989.)

Now whether LSP had their moldings painted body-color when they were in service, I couldn't tell ya. What I am posting is just what's on the door tag.

The MLDG code went to a single character in 1990, and in 1990 and 1991 all SSPs so far have been "X" (Black), even the NIS 1990 NYSPs. In 1992, the year that Ford went to color-coordinated bodyside moldings on the LX, there are a bunch of different MLDG codes for SSPs.

Thanks Mick. KF205913 is this car. I remember reading that somewhere that the "XXX" is black.

I'm with you in that I'm not sure if LSP painted them body-color when in service.

So what's the story with the spotlights on these cars? The first pic Jonathon posted has a normal S6 but the second pic has some sort of small black housing unit??

Anyone seen one of those before?

I really don't know what would have been considered "standard issue" on the '89's, but according to sspcrental, the '89's had a unique 4x6 rectangular spotlight with a black housing and the '93's had the traditional round Unity. Here is the link.

Congrats on the purchase! Can't wait to see it complete. After years of scouring, I always came up empty. Found one in central La., but it got away.
