Default 1989 Claimed SSP on ebay (edit: 4cyl conv clone)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1989-Ford-Mu...25.m3641.l6368

VIN is 1FABP40A6KF238509, which is not part of any groupings of (>3) VINs. I do not remember seeing this car before. It has fairly distinctive damage to the passenger side rocker panel.

Yup, that VIN is for a 2.3L four-cyl. And although the speedo is 140 MPH, it is not a "Certified Calibration".

I totally missed the engine code in the VIN. 'Serves me right for concentrating on the final 6 digits. The car appears to have had a spotlight mounted at one time. If the VIN is correct as listed on eBay, then it looks like someone built themselves a SSP-clone out of a 4 banger.

Nice catch, guys!

OR swapped vin #'s from a clear titled 4 banger. I know of a 91 GSP that someone had swapped another Clear vin (dash plate) onto, causing some big confusion as it still had the GSP buck tags still on the car. Fortunately the buck tags have the original vin # so I was able to help that person find out they had bought a altered GSP SSP I suggested running a car fax or vin check on the GSP vin but no word back from the owner...

Bobby, I hadn't considered that, which is probably more likely in this case.

He replied that he doesn't know what's up. I'm asked for a door tag.

The seller has clarified his ebay listing with the ad title saying "SSP clone" and the following notation under the description -

Quote:
Brutal honesty time: When I purchased this car originally it was sold to me as a SSP. I believed it; it turns out it isn't and is a converted 4 cylinder car-- thank you eBay Autocheck for bringing this to my attention. However, it now has the 5.0, AOD and the 8.8" rear so it's pretty much a 5.0 LX notch. At the end of the day you would be about $2,000 into it in mods alone by the time you got a 5.0 to this point. The price is reflective of it not being an original 5.0.
