Default found a 1992 mustang ssp

Found a 1992 mustang ssp was a ex highway patrol car. It has 180 thousand miles and the owner wants 2700.00 he says it needs new wheel bearings? Has a new heater core, a/c has been redone recently has diffrent headers and exhaust but other than that it looks to be all original. Not too much rust whatsoever. My question is what determines if its a good deal? What specifically should i look for? Is that some pretty high mileage for these cars?

Also has a new clutch.

Thanks for all your help.

Matt,

Do you have any pictures you can post (or other, additional information such as DSO, etc.)?

They almost all have high mileage. Rarely does one turn up with less than 100k on the clock. If it was newer with low mileage, there would be no need for a restoration. It is ultimately up to you. Do you want a car that did it's time and has a history or do you want a low mileage car that probably hasn't seen much. Personal preference really.

If that car in question is solid and complete, lacking rust and frame damage, I'd say that $2700 is a very fair price and is probably still negotiable to some extent.

Heres a couple pictures of it. He says it has diffrent headers which are mac headers and a diffrent exhaust without cats. It needs new wheel bearings front he says the a/c and heater core has been updated recently and very little rust.

What do you guys think its worth?

Also does 1992 have airbags?

If it runs good and is not in need of a lot of mechanical restoration and depending where the "little rust" is, I would say it is a steal. Around here Cincy/Dayton, OH that car would probably go for a little more than that if it was just a plain coupe. With it being a SSP it would be a great car to get a hold of for that price.

Good Luck!

Having the spotlight and trunk release button moved to the left and below the steering column are indicators that it is an SSP. Check for two buck tags by the radiator support and try to identify the DSO code on the driver's side door tag. The SSP's had a 6-digit code (mine CHP car is 72-0406), which helps ID where the car may have served if unknown. All of those pieces will help confirm that it is a real one.

Driver's side airbags became available in 1990, so a 92 does have a driver's side airbag.

As long as the rust is minimal, I think that he's asking a fair price.

If you are in the market for an SSP, id say jump on it. If you dont, someone else will. That car, if here, would only be available for a few days at most.
looks like a score and others will and have agreed.

I think $2700 is a good price for 5 speed SSP.

Default cash talks

thats a good price, go there with 2k CASH in your hand, hide the rest, cry about the high mileage and the wheel bearing, maybe he'll take it if not, meet in the middle, and smile all the way home in your SSP. as for the high mileage, 5.0 (GT40)motors are abundant and cheap thanks to the ford explorer/mountaineer, wheel bearings are 10 bucks at discount auto, if you dont buy it, tell me were it is and I will
