Default CT Hatchbacks

I vaguely recall a member with an 85/86 hatchback that was a CT police car. What's the story on these cars? Strange conversation going on in one of the fb groups and I'm curious now.

It was healybill on .org. From some posts there, his car was originally Clove Brown and assigned to Trooper L. Pagan on October 10, 1985.

This makes the list for 1985..
July 30, 1985 black plate number 988-DLB
dark clove brown plate number 984-DLB
dark clove brown plate number 983-DLB
dark clove brown plate number 982-DLB

August 9, 1985 medium blue plate number 985-DLB
blue plate number 986=DLB
black plate number 987-DLB

7 cars total to go along with the likes of a Grand National, Mazda MX5, Talon, and quite a few other unmarked high performance cars.

He said the speedometer was certified. I can't imagine these are SSP's but a Marti on one of these would be very interesting.

Anyone know what happened to this car?

I keep reading through old posts and answering many of my own questions. Apparently it sold not long after. There was also a post about one that came up on Ebay. Even though they weren't SSP's, I find it pretty cool that they were purpose ordered/leased as patrol cars.

I know I have Bill's contact info in a file. I seem to recall that he had one of the hatchbacks at the time we purchased our Nebraska SSP from him.

All of the CTSP were purchased by a leasing company that specialized in higher-mileage fleet vehicles, General Electric Leasing Company in Minnesota (DSO 58), and then they were leased to CTSP. For the ones that were SSPs (not all were) the DSO buck tag will say "GELCO" or something similar. Here is an example: http://specialservicemustang.net/VIN...info170655.htm

Thanks guys. The red hatch has resurfaced as of yesterday and, according to the owner, it's going under the knife soon. Also, it is confirmed that this car was originally grey, not brown.

This will be a cool one to see at a show among the SSP coupes.

FYI the hatchbacks are not SSPs. Have not seen a Marti report for any of them yet, which would spell out exactly how they were equipped. I'm hesitant to believe non-SSPs were equipped at the factory with SSP only parts unless I see some documentation to back that up. CTSP officers equipping the cars they drove with equipment as they see fit does not make it "factory".

The owner doesn't have a deluxe marti but there are zero indications that these cars were anything but regular civilian mustangs. The speedo seems to be an add on after the fact. So, yes, not an SSP but it is a legit CT police car from day one and I still think would be cool to see parked among the actual ssp equipped cars.
