INDIANAPOLIS -- Two juveniles were being questioned early Tuesday afternoon after a pregnant bank teller was shot in the lower abdomen in what police characterized as an outrageous act of terrorism during a bank robbery on Indianapolis' east side.

Police did not call the juveniles suspects in the case, but said they think they have pertinent information related to the robbery and shooting, 6News Jack Rinehart reported.

According to Indianapolis Metro police, the juveniles were found loitering outside Warren Central High School, where they are students. Authorities said the teens attempted to go into school, which was locked down following the robbery.

The bank robbery happened at about 9:30 a.m. at the Huntington National Bank at 2030 N. Post Road. Gloves that police think were used in the robbery were found between the bank and school, officials said.

According to Indianapolis Metro police Lt. Jeff Duhamell, the victim, who is five months pregnant with twins, was conscious but in serious condition when she was taken from the scene to Methodist Hospital to undergo surgery. Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard told 6News that the bullet did not strike the unborn children.

One customer and three employees were inside the bank at the time of the shooting, authorities said. None of them resisted during the robbery, 6News' Jack Rinehart reported.

"He ordered one of the customers down on the floor. The suspect then jumped over the counter and … shot a female teller," Duhamell said.

"It just makes me sick. Here's a woman working hard for a living," said IMPD Chief Michael Spears. "From all accounts, without provocation, this gutless robber shoots her."

Police are looking for the robber, described as black, 6 feet 2 inches tall and about 215 pounds. He was wearing a black hat and mask, black leather coat and blue jeans during the robbery. Police said he also wore sunglasses, teal surgical gloves and was carrying a Tec-9 semiautomatic gun.

Police said the shooter jumped into the passenger side of a dark gray Dodge Intrepid. Officers are also looking for the driver of that car and the occupants of a bright blue Honda SUV, also believed to have been involved. Descriptions of the other people police are looking for were not available.

Officers told Rinehart that witnesses told them the man fired his gun soon after entering the bank and fired more shots as he left.

IMPD and Indiana State Police set up a perimeter in the immediate vicinity of the bank in an effort to find the shooter and other males. The Indianapolis office of the FBI also is involved in the search. As many as 150 officers were involved, Ballard said.

"This makes you very angry. This is such a brazen act," Ballard said. "It should make everybody outraged."

"We have sent out agents as well as task force officers," said Wendy Osborne, of the FBI. "This is a dangerous individual. He needs to be brought to justice."

All Warren Township schools north of Washington Street were locked down following the incident. Parents were told that they cannot pick up their students until the lockdown is lifted.

"It does affect many students who have half-day schedules and would normally be leaving at noon time," said David Randall of Warren Township schools.
