In pictures 4928 and 4931, you can see a circular "scar" on that end piece. I wonder just what this was...

oh, I saw your door sticker with VIN in an old post. Our cars are 3 numbers apart.

Another yellow 82!

I am pretty sure that it is a speaker bracket that is designed to hold the driver in three places. If you secure the driver with just an "L" bracket, there is a lot of vibration potential and that was a frequent breakage spot. Our shop policy was to make sure that there were at least three points of attachment when using this D-60 speakers. When using a regular bracket we needed to get at least one screw into the cone with a fender washer to keep the vibration to a minimum.

Yeah, she was one of the yellow ones for most of her life.
