It is private, also. Not to keep people like you out; but because doing so keeps the discussions civil and minimizes the back and forth BS, with people posting fake traffic stops on each other, burnouts, etc etc etc. I'm sure you've seen that in the group above. It is pretty rare on the .NET group.

We have 1.1K members there, as opposed to the other group with 4K. They have been around alot longer on that platform, so I kinda expected it.
The page being private is the BEST decision for several reasons. It allows the mods and admin the ability to weed out the idiots. The mustang haters, the cop wanna be’s that embarrass everyone with the blip blip woot woot nonsense, the flippers that couldn’t care less about the history or heritage of the cars but instead try to become millionaires by gouging peoples eyes out of parts etc. The civility of the ssp.net facebook page alone is worth the price of admission. Years ago when NET was born it was for the right reasons. It’s still here because it’s run properly by dedicated long term enthusiasts. Nodrama likes the nodrama. Here’s to another 20 years…..cheers.

Facebook changed rules on Groups, which went into effect a week or so ago. In light of those changes, it was a very wise decision for the Admin to change the group security setting, and really the only decision that could be made. Let’s face it, this hobby has changed a lot in ten years. I’m an Admin on some Facebook groups, and in my experience the security settings have nothing to do with cliques. Facebook members have the option to request to join a Group. I’m not an Admin of the Group you mentioned with the first URL, but in my observation of posts by members over the years, it’s doesn’t seem very discerning. I’m assuming you haven’t joined Facebook and are trying to observe the Group only by the URL. I don’t do a lot of posting on Facebook; mostly there to be able to view various Groups of interest. Kept in context, Facebook can be helpful. You just need to maintain focus on why you are there and steer clear of everything else. For me, it’s not that hard to do.

98 percent of facebook is a shithole. I spend time there because I have to for work purposes. I am on a couple of pages based on my hobbies but other than that I try to steer clear.

For me, FB is a necessary evil that CURRENTLY provides me more benefit than a detriment. I too like staying in touch with people since we relocated in 2016. And it does scratch my itch for seeing cool cars in the various group pages that I choose to join. But if the benefit no longer outweighs the negative aspects of FB, I will shut down my account.

Regardless, I still like it here!
