Default 1990 MSHP SSP P162

I'm going to start a new thread on the SSP I recently purchased, a 1990 Missouri State Highway Patrol SSP Mustang inventory number P162 with license plate number 642-HP. Scheduled to depart on board a ocean carrier October 7th from the United Kingdom and about 30 days later will arrive in the United States, where I will retrieve it from the port in person and trailer home. This is a well known SSP and prior to Peter owning it in the UK, included other forum member owners Gregg H. and David P.

My Mustang was 1 of 16 the MSHP ordered in 1990 and 1 of 4 in Twilight Blue color. This vehicle led an interesting life, in that is said to have originally served as a marked road car, but was later stripped of markings and lightbar to be used for drug interdiction. A number of in service pictures exist of the car, both marked and unmarked. Thanks to an MSHP Trooper and SSP enthusiast friend, he spoke with is Captain who is the individual pictured right adjacent to the unmarked SSP and learned that the Captain was merely borrowing the SSP on the day of the photo and never assigned to the vehicle. I plan to verify the order of the marked/unmarked sequence with the assigned Tooper, who retired late last year as a Captain and is now serves in a Chief of PD role with a community college department in the KC area. The entire time in service, it was assigned to then Corporal Londell Jamerson of Troop A Lee’s Summit (Kansas City), Zone 4 working Platte County. Interestingly, forum member Jim D. backed this Trooper and SSP up on several stops while Jim was with the Lee's Summit, MO PD.

I've attached some pictures to include in service marked and unmarked, as well as post restoration pics that Gregg shared with me. Gregg and his wife had the opportunity to reunite Jamerson with the SSP in 2009. Also posting up the retirement article on Captain Jamerson from the November/December 2013 Patrol News (MSHP magazine). I'll periodically update this thread with new things as the vehicle makes it's way here and after it arrives. Not too many plans at this time, other than to permanently mark the car and I'd like to add the pin stripe back on it if I can get the right color and be comfortable with it. A few other minor things that I know of to start. Thank you.

Default Pic @ MSHP General HQ

Here's a pic from Gregg H. of this SSP at the Missouri State Highway Patrol General Headquarters facility in May 2009.

Default Retirement article...

Links to each page of the retirement article on Captain Londell Jamerson, who at the time was a Corporal assigned to my SSP. Glad that I kept this magazine.

Default Documentation you ask?

A boat load (pun intended) of documentation on this SSP (see link to the VIN project page below)...

http://specialservicemustang.net/VIN...info141249.htm

I'm fortunate that both my 1990 and 1990 MSHP SSPs (and my 1992 MSP SSP for that matters) have extensive documentation.

Default America bound...

Attached is a photograph from slightly over a week ago when this SSP headed off to the United Kingdom port of departure.

I've received confirmation that MSHP P162 is on the ocean vessel at sea. A brief stop to be made in France, before heading west for America. Glad this part of the process is underway with the next milestone U.S. Customs, followed by the most important milestone of taking physical possession just under a month from now.

You can see a UK required change to be road legal (for fog) in the tail lights. Essentially it is unchanged from when it left the U.S., except for a few minor items most will not notice.

Default Of note...

It's worth mentioning that Pmustng (Peter), who is the forum member I purchased the car was really great to work with through the process . As you might imagine, this one has been uniquely different for me given the location in the United Kingdom and export (from UK) and import (to US) aspects associated with this transaction. It has been a learning experience, although I won't feel any loss if this is the last vehicle I purchase from overseas and need to import.

Getting closer...the ocean carrier's ETA to the U.S. port of arrival is a week from today. As soon as it's "green lighted" through the Custom's process, I'll drive down to pick it up and haul it home. A long road, start to finish, with the end in sight.

I'm using Baltimore for it.

I'm 1 hour away from the Port of Baltimore, if you need anything when the car arrives.
