Default Total 1982-93 SSP Production Numbers

According to a Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords article there were 5,767 (plus the unknown 1983 number out of the 448 sedan total) SSPs built. Article has total for each year except 1982-83 (I added in the 406 for 1982).
http://www.musclemustangfastfords.co...les/index.html
Other sources (2 main SSP web sites) state approx. 15,000. Anybody know the real number?

Total for '83 is there. Says 356. Where did you see 448 total sedans? That article says 1,170.

Those MM&FF articles were written by Peter C. Sessler. Same guy that put out the Fox-Body Mustang Recognition Guide (co-authored with the late Thomas A. Shreiner) and the Mustang Red Book. Sessler also put out another book I have, the Illustrated Mercury Buyer's Guide.

I've been working on collecting VINs over the past couple of years. I have gone through 1981 through 1986 Capri and 1981 through 1987 Mustang. Out of all of the VINs I have, the ONLY number that matches is the total '84 Turbo GTs (but even the total hatchbacks and convertibles don't match).

Sorry, I meant 1984 (SSP N/A, LX 5.0 - 448 sedans)

The numbers in that article are definitely skewed. Stew Jones, before he closed down shop, put them together based on the data he has (or had). He sorted the VINs by blank paint code. That means that he only captured special paint cars (either solid or two-tone) and that also means he captured ANY special paint car; not necessarily SSPs. It also doesn't take into account all of the non-special paint (stock, solid colors) cars. We talked about it before he disappeared.

You're looking at the incorrect columns and rows.

The first column (where you see "N/A") is for 5.0L convertibles (P27M).
The second column (where you see "448") is for 5.0L sedans (P26M).
The last row is for totals and it says 1,395 for P26M.

Yes, I see they changed the order of the headers at the top of the chart from 1983 to 1984.
448 is the total for 1984 SSPs.

No...it isn't. Those numbers aren't correct.

THANKS for the clarification. If ANYONE knew the REAL numbers at this time, it would have been posted HERE long ago.
