Smile Attention All '82 CHP SSP Owners

Please list your unit number and I can see:
If it had an engine failure during its inservice life
If it had a transmission failure during its inservice life
If it had a rear end failure during its inservice life
Where the car served
And what the mileage at the time of a failure if the car had a failure.

My dad found some of his CHP files on the 82 CHP SSP's. I will scan some of them and post them

And, according to the CHP documents, there were 404 '82s and 280 '84s ordered.

And
Major Engine Failure on 8-14-84 with 62116 miles.

Here's a quote from one of the documents (I will scan and post this one)
Quote:
The Department purchased 400 1982 Mustang 2-door coupes, Class "E" patrol vehicles (E870201 through E870600).
The # I had posted in my first post, may be the coupes and the hatches together. These numbers came from original (or copied) CHP Motor Transport Bulletins.

Looking through the known 82s in the VIN project (with unit #s),
870255 had
Major Transmission fail at 1-11-84 with 74016 miles

870327 had
Major Differential fail at 10-22-84 with 82722 miles at area office 360
Major Trans fail at 2-27-84 with 60392

870300 had
no failures! I wish something had failed so we could see where the car served

870567 had
Major Trans fail at 9-10-84 with 60058 miles

870513 had
Major Trans at 10-2-84 with 69378 miles at area office 340

87448 had
Major Trans at 3-12-84 with 62497 miles at area office 835
Front Pads at 6-8-83 with 9785 miles

870594 had
No failures!

Those are the 82s in the VIN project with unit #s listed.

A couple cars I found interesting-
870595 had
Major Diff. at 11-28-83 and 2-22-84 (with 13625 miles) and 6-13-84(with 39987 miles)

870600 had
Major Diff. at 5-12-83(with 40043 miles) and 1-9-84 (with 65061 miles) and 6-7-84 (with 75028 miles)

They were driven hard and most likely don't exist now.

WOW !

Just when I start to get a little bored with these cars a thread, and 30 year old documentation like this surfaces !!! When I first inspected my 82 I made the comment that it looked like it had never been apart. I will be doing some more inspection now to try and determine if all the drivetrain is original to the car. Must be something special about this 1 of 1 tailhook equipped car.

I will be keeping my 82 now......

HOLY SMOKES, Sam! That is a GREAT collection of CHP documentation. THANK YOU for sharing it with us.

The following two pages caught my eye:

...where we had concluded that there were "most likely" only 4 CHP hatchbacks in 1982. Now we have CHP documentation that reinforces our conclusions.

Great, great stuff!
