Default CHP Total for 1985

The seller of the 1985 CHP Mustang in New Orleans sent me some pictures of the documentation he has with the car. In it, there are two pages described as the Special Equipment Parts List, from Ford:

Note that the total number of units shown for DSO order #72-0406 was 154 units. Everyone has been operating on the basis that the CHP bought 155 SSP's that year. Either the number was in fact 154, or the CHP purchased one car separately from the above order of 154 cars (perhaps as a test vehicle for the new model year). Regardless, it's good stuff!

Also part of his documentation was an extended warranty letter that shows the VIN for CHP #E408327 -

If that car ever turns up then the owner with that VIN will know the car's CHP Unit Number.

My dad took a photo when he was at CHP motor transport of a list they had of how many vehicles of a certain model were ordered each year from 1966 to 1997. It was listed that there were 155 85 mustangs.

Sam, if you ever find that photo I hope that you post it up here. Even if nothing new is learned, having the add'l documentation would be a great thing.

I'm showing 162 consecutive VINs with 72-0406 (CHP) at the beginning and 74-0637 (Oregon) at the end. The very last "confirmed" CHP on the list also happens to be the 154th on the list.

Not sure of how it would work with the DSOs and VINs but one thing to keep in mind is that California allows local agencies to "piggy-back" orders onto CHP contracts for CHP spec. vehicles.

Its probably mixed in with all the other hundreds of photos my dad took at MT. I just remember the those #s along with 250 mustangs for 84

I see periods after the "/C". Every time I click or paste the link it says it is broken.

That's a "piggy-back" for specs and pricing, and not the number of units ordered.

CHP did get a "T&E" car each year for inspection purposes. I'll go dig out the CHP documentation and see if the VIN is noted on the form for the '89s. If it is, and is consecutive with the others, we may have our answer.
