hi everyone
my son Alex and myself are not new to mustangs but are new to SSP ones .We recently purchased a 1985 north Carolina SSP car from my neighbor/friend whom think really did not want to sell it but family obligations said otherwise .My son and I would really like to restore it but i also promised my neighbor /friend that i would not sell this 1 of 1 all black car to someone who will chop it up for racing or street use .This car needs to be fully restored ,we have an excellent start with a rust free car that is all there except for stock carb .while it was in his posession he was able to gather the period correct radios and the radar system with carrying case plus other small odds and ends that the nc sun took its toll on .My son and i will post pics soon and keep everyone posted as to what are intentions are .I do have one pic you all might like to see . When the car was put on my lift i saw this on the RR end cover and thought i would pass it on .thanks for reading this since ive been long winded .Rick R and Alex

Welcome! Glad to have you!! The guys here are very knowledgeable and will be able to help you when you have questions. Keep us up to date on the progress!

And you wouldn't believe how many times I've seen that on rear ends on cars that are in junkyards, been sitting in someone's yard for a while etc. Dirt dobbers really love those center sections of rear ends for some reason lol.

Smile This is what started it all for us

a 1979 (ya i know its not a mustang )mercury capri 5.0 r/s that was all there origanal paint etc way up in maine with no rust whats so ever . go figure .but it did start him (who was only 15 when he bought it last oct.)on a good path where we would spent alot of father and son time trading /bartering etc to get her running and registered and ins.Alex does have a permit now but still no s3eat time in behind the wheel yet .its taken a trophy this summer at a big cruise night in our area well enough of that . Alex and my neighbor xxtrpr have slowly turned me into a ford guy and besides spending alot of good quality time with my son weve met alot of raelly nice people through all the shows - mustangs at the merrimack nh plant and all ford weekend at new england dragway . Now we hope to put all of our efforts into this rare find so ive been bitten by the ssp bug not a bad thing just as long as all the southern spiders and wasps etc have vacated her

Welcome Rick and Alex. Looking forward to seeing progress on this 1985 NC SSP.

This car is part of a group of 37 consecutive 5.0L coupes (FF251153 through FF251189). http://www.specialservicemustang.net/VINlist/85VIN.html One other in the group has recently been up for sale, but is a different special order number (#0687) than yours (#0691). Looks like less than a dozen are still alive or on the road today. I ran record checks on the group in Jan '13.

Here are some threads that may be of interest to you:

Welcome guys. As a huge supporter of father/son projects, I know that you two should have a great time bringing that SSP back to life. It will be time well-spent!
