1992 CHP Mustang #9136 - Possible SMPV Unit - Virginia
Years ago, I picked up a 1992 CHP Mustang (#9136) - I never finished up the restoration, and subsequently it passed through Mike J (wsp-lxmike) and landed in South Dakota with Danny Sparling. He has since moved with the car to Virginia.
At the time when I had it, we speculated that it was likely an SMPV unit given it’s white paint job, and some of the other traits. Unfortunately, an assignment card was never found, and no true way to verify this. The car was rough when it was found years back. A young man had it, and had planned on tricking it out, but then needed cash and decided to sell. The crappy…and I mean crappy…green paint from the CHP auction is still on the car, and it’s failing. You can see the white underneath (likely SMPV painted) and the black under that. The body panels are straight, and no accident damage that I have ever seen…just worn over time. The mechanical items were rung out by Mike and Danny - and from what Danny tells me, the car has served faithfully as his daily driver over the past few years - and he uses it daily currently. He has a nice collection of cars, and thinks it’s time to part ways for something newer. Danny asked that I post this to the forum on his behalf. For information about the car, more info on what he has done, additional pictures, etc., please contact Danny directly at: dannysparling@gmail.com Here’s what Danny states he has done to the car from me e-mail exchange with him: A new World Class T-5 transmission New Clutch New Pressure Plate New Flywheel New Struts and Shocks Converted it to a ‘-94-’96 5 Bolt, Cobra Mustang brake system – 13” up front … I think 11.XX” out back Caster Camber Plates New Carpet New Door Handles inside and outside New tires this summer – 17”* BFG’s New engine belts and wipers last week. Danny states that the only real clear coat left is on the driver’s door and front fender. He mentions that he’s pulling down 22-24 mpg driving to work. From Danny: “More stuff I added/replaced: The carpet – not happy with how it looks but it’s new The grill behind the hood - on the cowl SVO seat on the driver’s side – have an SVO seat for the passenger side too but never put it in Brake proportioning valve – the brakes are awesome with NO brake dive now I have all of the original spindles, brakes, axles, etc. - if someone wants them I’ll put them back in the car The pictures are with the car still wet from a wash. The paint does NOT look that good. Being wet shows how straight the body still is.” Mileage: Unknown - Danny is looking this up and will update shortly. Asking price: $7,000 Seller’s e-mail: dannysparling@gmail.com Some photos that Danny provided in mail:

Good question. I asked that and got this response:
"The car is in southwestern Virginia - about an hour from Bristol, TN/VA"

Car is already going down the wrong road...owner should have taken the money wasted on the 5-lug wheel and brake set up and put it toward cleaning up the body and paint.

When I had it years back, the paint was horrible....and only getting worse. The cheap respray was not helpful. Had a tranny quirk in 3rd gear (keeping it in gear was a chore) - so glad to see it got a new tranny at least.
Danny was thinking of turning it into a racer, but opted not to. Just put on some go fast/fun parts. Could probably be brought back fairly easily. Of note...I believe the buck tags are missing up front. Somewhere along the way they came off the car after I had sold it. Cool to see her again. Hope it goes to a nice home.
