1992 mustang uhp
Picked up this 1992 mustang utah highway patrol car, it had been sitting for about 3 years, had to clean out the maf meter, hook up some wiring, and then proceeded to take it on a 160 mile mustang cruise. I would love to have some help with the vin number.
Picked it up for 1400 5 speed, no rust and all original. Also still has the bucktags. Has the holes in for lights with the plastic gromet and a couple on the dash and shifter area. 1FACP40E4MF177154 If someone can run the above vin and pm me or email me that would be super. Also the speedometer has stopped working do i just use a standard speedometer for it? And lastly the cruise control doesnt work does this run off a fuse? Or is it the box behind the front fender? The speedo could be a couple of things.....the head itself, cable, or the gear in the transmission. Have you had a chance to look at it yet?
Cruise is harder to mess with. Do you have a shop manual? If not, they are worth their weight in gold for problems like yours. Sounds like you got a great deal regardless.

If the cruise is not working, it's possible the steering wheel clock spring is failing. Usually when that part fails completely, cruise control, horns & airbag will be inoperable (and sometimes the airbag light or CEL will flash a code).
The clock spring is located under the steering wheel, to get to it or to fix it, you have to remove the steering wheel. It's also possible the cruise may not be working due to a vacuum leak or someone before you has disconnected/removed some or all of the parts that make up the cruise control system. ~~~ Safely get the front of the car on ramps, get under it on the driver's side and pull the speedo cable out of the side of the transmission. If once the cable is removed you see the gear is stripped, then just replace the gear and that should get your speedo working again. If you find that the speedo gear @ the transmission is not stripped, then you have to go and check more things out as mentioned above - such as has it possibly become disconnected at the rear of the speedo cluster, are the gears within the speedo head stripped or not working, cable, etc. |
