back at the crib !
18 hours in the gt 500 was a ******blast****** on the way home today. Like flying an F-18 while being in a dogfight with a bunch of cessna 172's. lol I met a great Sgt with LSP when I got off the 18 mile bridge near Baton Rouge. The guy flying the plane wanted him to have a chat with me. ;) so we talked about the car and how many months we both have left on the job and then a handshake and off I went. Nice guy in a freaking fast !! Tahoe. :) Put the cruise on 83 for most of the trip, except for a couple of "breeze outs" on the open road in Alabama. The car still got an average of 21.4 mpg over the entire 2850 mile trip. I had a good time and am looking forward to the 50th in Vegas with all the west coasters !! |
Glad you made it hope safely, Jim! I enjoyed seeing you again. And Mike, thanks for the hospitality and taking us to The Shack for the awesome burgers. I enjoyed meeting Tom, Bret, Todd/Denise, and Bob from FEP. I had a GREAT time! Getting to Jim's was uneventful, and our tandem 16-hour drive to Beaumont went off without a hitch (except when our Garmins gave us different routes to Texas from Nashville!).
http://images52.fotki.com/v1551/phot...7/photo-vi.jpg This was my first MCA show. I rec'd a few questions about my Delaware license plate, but I was beat out for the long distance award by some Mustangers from Washington state and the winner from Maine. The show site was perfect for the event - http://images15.fotki.com/v587/photo...7/photo-vi.jpg http://images16.fotki.com/v387/photo...7/photo-vi.jpg Tom's car was the only SSP in attendance - http://images12.fotki.com/v213/photo.../photo2-vi.jpg There are more pictures to be found here... http://public.fotki.com/28HopUp/mca-beaumont2013/ ...which includes photos from Friday night's BBQ, and a sweet 1959 El Camino that came by as we were in the parking lot behind our hotel. The ride home took 26.5 hours, including the time change and a 1-hour nap along the way. A literal high point of the trip was a detour through the Shenandoah Mountains - http://images61.fotki.com/v536/photo...7/photo-vi.jpg Total distance traveled = 3,406 miles. It's time for another oil change! :) |

Bill there is no way you had any bugs on your car?? They were all on mine.
I spent 4 hours today cleaning her up. Miraculously not one single chip in the paint !! She is all tucked away now. |
Man I'm sad I had to miss this one. The new job was certainly worth it, but I hate missing these shows. Tom's car really needed some company there too. Bill, I'm glad you came away with a new parts stash for the SMPV!

The attached picture was scanned from the June 2013 issue of "Mustang Times". That white 1985 GT in the upper corner belongs to ImEvil1, and part of Jim's 2012 GT500 is shown next to it. Despite mixed reviews by some folks, I really enjoyed my first national MCA show!
