I decided to order four Marti Reports. Three are likely Pierce County Sheriff Department cars (one being #1312 - the white K-9 unit). The fourth report is for the VIN immediately after the final PCSD car (#1317) to lock in the VIN range. Their website said that I should receive the reports by the end of this week. :) I see that Marti raised the price on Standard Reports to $18 each, for those who are interested.

JF256154 = first car in DSO 74-0092 for PCSD (unit #1300) JF256166 = White K-9 (unit #1312) JF256170 = Light Gray SSP (unit #1316) JF256172 = DSO #73-0065, an SSP ordered through the SLC office :cool: |
FYI: JF256172 was ordered through Rick Warner Ford in Salt Lake City

Looks like the PCSD unit numbers go in order by VIN?
JF256154 #1300 JF256155 #1301 JF256156 #1302 JF256157 (#1303?) JF256158 #1304 JF256159 (#1305?) JF256160 (#1306?) JF256161 #1307 JF256162 (#1308?) JF256163 (#1309?) JF256164 #1310 JF256165 (#1311?) JF256166 #1312 JF256167 (#1313?) JF256168 (#1314?) JF256169 (#1315?) JF256170 #1316 JF256171 #1317 |
Yes, the PCSD ran their unit numbers sequentially based upon the VIN. According to Ryan, around that same time period they had a different way to create a car's unit number:
1st Number = Last digit of model year. Next Three = Last 3 digits of VIN Some of the early photos of Ryan's and Robert's restored cars had this numbering system on them. Ryan's car (now mine) had 8164 on it in some photos. The PCSD Mustangs may have started out with 81xx numbers and were switched to the #13xx numbers, or they may have always been in the #1300 - #1317 range. That is why the 81xx numbers are also listed on each car's page in the VIN Project, since we do not know exactly when they changed the numbers. Quote:

Thanks go out to Mike, aka Notch50, for passing along an ebay link that had a photo of the roof numbers for a FHP already in our Project -

Going through some of my old photo files, I found this good old version smog history report that will confirm another unit # for a '93 CHP:

Nice. Amazing what is out there floating around that helps document these cars.

I recently bought a non SSP coupe from a guy in Griffin Ga. He showed me his project and turns out it was a 1989 SCHP. Get this, he had just painted the passengers door jam and was prepping the drivers. I explained about the numbering system and ask if we could do a little sanding to recover the #'s he had just primed over. You could make them out better in person but they were there. Here are the pics of his unit #'s that were just about 15 minutes away from being lost forever...

1987 TxDPS - http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info170615.htm 1988 AzDPS - http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info221372.htm 1989 SC - http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info210413.htm 1989 FHP - http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info211981.htm In most cases, there were other SSPs in the respective group of VINs with the same DSO number. ;) Thanks for your submissions. :) |

Thank you, Andy! I have really enjoyed working on the VIN Project, and do not regret the untold hours I have spent since 2011 making it a valuable resource for the hobby. It has been a group effort for sure!

I just picked up a 1988 FHP Mustang here in PR. It has all the markings of a SSP, Certified Calibration speedometer, holes on the left and right side of the center console, DSHMV sticker inside the glove compartment, a pillar hole for spotlight, 2 buck tags, drivers side trunk release button and in the roof line where it meets the rear drivers side window you can see the tan color under the black paint.

You collecting them!

Hi there John... Not really but the seller didn't exactly know what he had. After I explained to him and showed him all the details he didn't seem interested in keeping it, so I took it off his hands. Just couldn't let it go to waste and later see it at some track all chopped up.
|
Here's a 1984 FHP that showed up on FB not too long ago -
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info206966.htm It is painted like a GSP car, but it is a Florida SSP. I understand that it was recently sold and will be restored. |
Here's a legit FBI SSP -
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info191681.htm There is another confirmed FBI car in the same batch with the same DSO number. |
NICE!!! Nothing beats having documentation:thumbsup:

Jonathon alerted me of the following car that popped up for sale:
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/5525249977.html Quote:
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info247945.htm This car shows a SCHP unit number, but the Buck Tag says NORTH CAROLINA. The DSO 22 is for Charlotte, and there are other SCHP Mustangs in same batch of VINs ordered under a different DSO number. We can only speculate why the tag says NORTH but the cars were used by the SCHP. |

Hi Bill,
'91 RCMP to add to the Project. One picture is the RCMP service folder with a ton of records. I scanned one of the service reports for an oil change in 07/14/93, that indicates RCMP, VIN 146954, and the unit number 6G8. |

Here are a couple in service pics as well
|
That's AWESOME!
EDIT: I just added this one cuz it's cool to see a RCMP SSP - http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info146954.htm  |
Should it be a 91 RCMP SSP, instead of a 93 RCMP SSP? I was thinking they were white in 93, which caused me to look at Jonathon's email up above. Just throwing it out there in the event an update is needed to the VIN page.
|
Ooops! I used the page for a 1993 RCMP car as the basis for creating the new page. Operator error I'm afraid. I'll fix it tomorrow.

Further info from my CHP SSP for the VIN project
Hi there, would you be able to flick me an email directly to bosskraft@hotmail.com? I have some more info on my '88 CHP SSP that you'll no doubt want to list on the VIN project for that particular VIN.
Cheers, Sean |
