You're right. FB reaches far more people than the forum, but it also has more knuckleheads that can make us look bad. We've seen it several times recently.

I've been slacking somewhat on adding new SSPs to the Project. Here's another 1990 Avis Leasing SSP...

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info180116.htm

...but this one is from a different batch of VINs. ;)

28HopUp 10-15-2020 09:49 PM

Here's a 1990 Nevada SSP -

:)

Finally (for tonight), here's a 1990 NCSHP car -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info145304.htm

28HopUp 10-18-2020 10:17 PM

Walter W sent over some photos and Marti Report of his 1990 CHP, which was already in the Project from the documentation provided by JimY -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info170366.htm

Walter also purchased the 1988 Colorado SSP that had a tree fall on it during a recent coastal storm. The car was not totaled, and we were able to add this car into the Project using photos provided by the seller. Walter sent over a PDF copy of the Marti Report -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info220636.htm

It's nice adding documentation to cars already in the Project.

The good with the bad, I suppose. It can be managed a bit where an Admin doesn't allow the "knuckleheads" a stage.

We seem to have the same problems on FB's .Net that we have here. About zero.

Haha! That's true. The FB page draws many new members, so the chances for them to cause trouble increases, even if they properly answer the application questions. We're still doing OK. ;)

Here's a 1987 Washington SSP that I just added to the Project -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info153266.htm

More to come! :D

This 1991 GSA car popped up on FB -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info161604.htm

This one is 2 VINs away from a confirmed FBI car with the same DSO number. The nice thing about this one is the Build Sheet that was posted.

Thanks for keeping up with this, Bill. You still have the info for the 82 I sent you?

Here's an 1988 Utah SSP that popped up for sale on FB -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info275822.htm

The seller is a member of FEP, and I think he joined here too a while back (he's asking $4,500 for it)

1990 GSP

Here's the new page for a 1990 GSP that popped up f/s on FB for $5,500 -

Another 1992 Michigan SSP

This 92 Michigan popped up for sale on FB last month, and I am now able to get it added to the Project -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info138477.htm

I felt compelled to note that the car is not a 100% accurate restoration because I do not want anyone to claim it to be correct, as seen in our Project.

'More SSPs to be added this week. I will note the ones which are of particular interest. :)

New In-Service Pic on 1987 CHP

This SSP was already listed in our Project using documentation provided by Jim Young. A picture surfaced on FB of a 1987 CHP (we knew the year because that was the only year the CHP cars were supplied by Ford without a 5.0 fender badge). Upon closer examination of the front license plate, we were able to determine the unit number to be #E422998, which through Jim's documentation we knew was this car:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info184743.htm

I love being able to match up an in-service photo to a particular VIN from our Project. ;)

28HopUp 12-21-2020 01:39 PM

Here's another one where Jim's documentation confirmed the car as a SSP - this time a 1993 FHP. This car was recently posted for sale here -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...ead.php?t=6966

The listing on BAT makes no mention of the car's FHP Unit Number, but one of the photos was a copy of the original title, which we did not have for the Project. The title includes the handwritten numbers 1772, which means its number was FHP1772. This photo was added to the Project, along with identifying the FHP Unit Number -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info134328.htm

VERY cool find!

ImEvil1 12-22-2020 11:11 AM

Nice work! Another Jim Bridges car that went to NC.

New Batch of 1988 FHP's

This one is part of a larger batch of VINs, but this one is now confirmed as a FHP -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info245291.htm

28HopUp 12-22-2020 07:31 PM

This one was listed as "ARIZONA" in our Project, based upon the verbiage on the Buck Tag. Additional information surfaced and after discussion on FB, it was determined that this car was highly likely (enough for us to call it this) a SSP ordered for the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info206340.htm

MOstang 12-24-2020 10:21 AM

An interesting find.

28HopUp 01-03-2021 10:18 AM

1989 FHP Unmarked

This 1989 unmarked FHP was already listed in our VIN Project, and recently popped up for sale on Bring-A-Trailer, as discussed here:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...ead.php?t=6981

The new BAT listing included many new photos, allowing us to add a couple to the car's page:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info201529.htm

This is not the only 1989 unmarked FHP we have confirmed in the Project. The following SSP is from the same 12-car batch of consecutive VINs -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info201526.htm

And the following one is from a later-batch of 5 consecutive VINs:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info201807.htm

We would have to pull Marti Reports to determine if any of these cars were also equipped with 5-speeds or not.

FoxChassis 01-05-2021 09:22 AM

The second unmarked FHP posted above (KF201526) is also a 5-speed manual, per the TR code "2" on the door tag.

I didn't think to look for that code. Thanks Mick!

A 1990 FHP leads to adding 10 more!

Here is a newly-added 1990 FHP having DSO #24-0067:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info159274.htm

As part of the same batch, the next confirmed DSO #24-0067 car is:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info159293.htm

There are 10 VINs in between those two which show a POLICE branded title on the Florida DMV website. In situations where there are consecutive VINs with matching DSO numbers, we have utilized these cars as a start/end point and used the DMV records to add the cars with POLICE branded titles to the Project. In this instance, we added 10 more (suspected) FHP Mustangs to the Project, just like this one:

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info159286.htm

:)

28HopUp 02-09-2021 12:32 PM

Now THIS one is COOL!

Below is a 1993 GSA car that popped up on FB. We have seen before when paint can lids with the word "POLICE" written on them are attached to the SSP. This 1993 SSP is slightly different:
  • Instead of saying "DSO POLICE" or just "POLICE", this lid says "DSO PI". Could this be the first Police Interceptor Mustang? I am kidding of course, but it is an interesting variation to what we normally see.
  • If you look closely you will see that the word COBRA is also written on this lid.

SMPV identified

A photo appeared on FB recently showing a 1989 SMPV (Specially Marked Patrol Vehicle) by the CHP -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...211270pic1.jpg

The photo shows the license plate, which is the CHP Unit Number for those who do not know. 1989 is one of those years where we have most of the CHP Unit Numbers listed in the VIN Project (thank you Jim Y!). So it was fairly simple to determine the VIN for the SMPV in the photo -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info211270.htm

That's pretty sneaky having a bra with a Mustang logo on the front of the car! I do not think I've seen that before. This SMPV car does not have any spotlights either. Very stealthy! If anyone has a CARFAX account they could check to see if this car is still on the road.

Here's is another 1989 all-white SMPV that was also operated out of the Golden Gate Division office and has the next consecutive CHP Unit Number -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info211275.htm

28HopUp 02-10-2021 03:28 PM

Build Sheet for 85 NCSHP

The Build Sheet was posted online for a 1985 NCSHP car that was already listed in the Project -

28HopUp 02-10-2021 03:41 PM

Marti Report for 1990 NCSHP

This one was just added to the Project -

1993 SCHP

Here is the 516th 1993 SSP added to the Project...

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info164537.htm

...which was ordered under DSO #21-0516. It's just a silly coincidence, but whatevs. :)

MOstang 02-27-2021 10:32 AM

Meant to be, haha!

28HopUp 03-08-2021 01:51 PM

1986 NIS

This beautiful low mileage, Never-In-Service 1986 SSP was listed on ebay a couple of months ago. The new owner has listed it again with an asking price of $34K. It is one of two consecutive VINs (likely with the same DSO number), but this car was not used in-service.

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info198877.htm

We have no information on the other VIN in this DSO.

28HopUp 04-18-2021 09:09 PM

I am working on the additions to the Project that I obtained from attending PITS2021. In the meantime, here is a 1992 FHP that popped up on FB which was already in our Project. Up 'til now, we only had the car listed through its Police-branded title on the Florida DMV site. Now with VIN label and Buck Tags added to the page, it is even "more" confirmed. :)

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info136809.htm

28HopUp 04-29-2021 08:46 AM

Some new/updated pages from pics taken at PITS2021 -

1989 SCHP
1989 FHP
1991 SCHP #2-12-271
1991 FHP
1992 SCHP #2-12-428

Some of the pics are oriented wrong. I will try to fix those...

1990 Kansas HP Turnpike car rescued

This 1990 Kansas Highway Patrol Turnpike SSP surfaced on FB -

http://www.specialservicemustang.net...info136363.htm

It is in good hands, and this SSP will look great when it is restored.

MOstang 04-30-2021 06:55 AM

I was glad to read that on Facebook re: the Kansas State / Turnpike SSP. A turning point for it, after all these years, to now be in an enthusiast hands.

I know! It's great to see a rare SSP end up in good hands.
