New guy with a '93 SSP *pics*
Well, I found this on CL the other day and quickly snatched it up. Long story short, it was a DARE car belonging to the Brantley County (Ga) Sherrif's Office. It was sold in 2001 and I bought it from the second owner who bought it at auction. Unfortunately he gave it to his son in law a year ago who did not take very good care of it. It is totally stock down to the air silencer and is complete and unmolested. The undercarrage is pristine as well.
Plans are to repaint back to factory color white and leave it stock. Anyway, here are a couple pics but I will post more this weekend when I have time to clean it up. I got a kick out of the hillbilly jack stands http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/3669/mustang2.th.png The deputy it was assigned to gave me a pic of it while in service. |
That's a great in-service shot! Thx for posting...

That's a pretty good DARE car look. Take a look at this link to a diff't thread on this forum.
http://www.specialservicemustang.net...8404#post18404 My 1993 Missouri State Highway Patrol SSP was subsequently a DARE car for 10 years. You'll see a pic there of what it looked like as a DARE car. |

The more I dig into this car i becomes clear I saved this car from certain death. I removed the interior due to the carpet being soaked (rain) and the floorboards look pretty good. Repaired a few surface rust spots and put some seam sealer in one of the corners by the pass door. Today I will start reinstalling the interior.

I was floored when I found this. The pass side muffler was supported from the driveshaft with a close hanger.....
I will post more pics tonight. http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/5967/017qle.jpg |
 amazing what some will do......
It looks as thought the car was originally white? Are you planning on keeping it blue or repainting back to original color? Glad you saved the car as it was obviously headed down the "dark side". |

I put the interior back in today but it was too late for pics. I steam cleaned the carpet and it cleaned up nicely. I will post more tomorrow.

Great job on saving the car !!! and the progress..
I just got all interior back in mine , when i took it apart it had some mismatched non mustang screws on interior panels so i ordered all the correct screws , looks sweet now ! My headliner has not come in yet ??? My son and i did our first ever mustang cruise to South Padre Island today , GREAT TIME !!! we took the USPS SSP , it performed like a true stallion ! some pics of the interior clean up job , it's a 159k mile interior ! http://i558.photobucket.com/albums/s...0213001109.jpg http://i558.photobucket.com/albums/s...0213001537.jpg http://i558.photobucket.com/albums/s...213001537a.jpg ssp91ssp |
Yours cleaned up nice.
My interior was surprisingly complete and clean. The carpet cleaned up OK and luckily my headliner is in very good shape. http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/8109/004ps.jpg |
I still have a lot of cleaning to do but the interior is done for now. I have never seen vinyl interior like this before so I'm wondering if the seats were recovered at some point. However, it does look like Opal grey.
Anyway, it has some transmission issues I need to address to get it in drivable condition. Here are a few pics from how it sits this morning. http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/5817/1005oa.jpg http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/9131/heads024.jpg http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/411/heads022.jpg |

Is that grass outside on the ground? I haven't seen grass in about 2 weeks (we got 4 feet of snow from two storms in the last 10 days). I forgot what grass looks like. ;)
Nice looking SSP, btw! |

Never seen Vinyl seats like that before ?????
are they correct for the car ?? when i had my interior out the front seats have little metal tags with mustang #'s .. these tags are on the seat base wire mesh , my old 67 fastback had those tags also with correct date code. ssp91ssp |

The transmission (AOD) is getting rebuilt as we speek. Thats going to be expensive..... |
I finally found time to install my exhaust, front brakes and rotors. I went with the Flowmaster Force II kit and all brake parts from NAPA. I also decided to retain the stock H-pipe.

Cool ! nice job ...

+1. Nice pics, too.
|
Thanks. My camera either sucks or I can't get the lighting right.
Anyway, I had the AOD rebuilt because I wanted all the drivetrain to remain original. I just wish I would of went ahead and had a 2200 stall put in. |
Score
A Firefighter buddy of mine hooked me up with a Whelen Edge lightbar which is what came on this car. I also got the power head with a mike. I need to see if everything works.

All I planned yesterday was to fix the battery cables. One thing lead to another and before I knew it the suspension was blown apart. I ordered new spring isolators anyway so I'm glad I knocked it out. Good thing because I found out the rack is has play in the drivers side and the ball joints were wore out. I am going to go ahead and clean up underneath, clean up and paint the axle.
