2nd in-person schedule w/assigned MSHP Trooper
Hello - Leaving Thursday for trip home to Missouri to visit my parents and to partake in the opening couple days of Spring Turkey hunting season. As part of my visit home I'm going to trailer my returned to in-service specs 1993 Missouri State Highway Patrol SSP.
My father and I have scheduled our 2nd in-person meeting at MSHP HQ with Lt. Vince Rice, who was the MSHP Trooper assigned to my SSP the entire time in was in-service with the MSHP. Our 1st in-person meeting with Lt. Rice was a wonderful opportunity and happened about year and a half ago. This meeting will provide the first opportunity for Lt. Rice to see his old SSP in-person since turning it in at the end of its MSHP service life. As you can imagine he's looking forward to the opportunity to see this Mustang again. I may be more excited than he is to afford him the opportunity to not only see but drive this SSP again. I know a few of the SSP enthusiasts have had the opportunity to share their SSP with the Trooper it was assigned and those stories are always alot of fun to read. So long as no unanticipated assignment should surface that day for Lt. Rice this meeting will occur. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures to share with everyone. |
that is very cool. be sure to include stories of the trooper and the car, like if there was any high speed pesuits they was involed in

I met Mike Patterson today in Jefferson City MO. It was a neat meeting, Lt Rice gave Patterson his original license plate (632-HP) that was on this SSP. Lots of Troopers came out of the Headquarters building to check out Pattersons car.
Patterson won't be home til next week so he asked me to go ahead and post some photos. Enjoy! Eric - Thanks for posting up some of the pics you took Friday. It was really nice meeting you, you son and father as well as Jim....really appreciate you making the trip into Jeff City.
A lot of different things were going on all at once so it was nice to have someone else helping with photos. You really take some nice photos. Running on empty after leaving my parents home in Missouri at 2:15am. Need to head back to the office tomorrow and Friday for some out of town guests visiting but taking Monday and Tuesday as vacation. Lt. Rice presenting me one of his old SSP Mustang license plates was a real nice suprise. He mentioned it was hanging in his office and that he had another one at home but hadn't been able to find it as yet but he's going to keep that one as a momento. The plate he presented was the one from his office and he asked me to promise that if I ever sell the car to send him his plate back. Seems to have been a gesture to recognize the transformation this SSP has taken over the past 2 years. He was real generous with his time (spent about an hour with us) and I don't think that I could have asked any more from him. He signed the underside of my trunk lid with a sharpie and was nice enough to sign a number of other things for me as well. Over the next couple of days I'll post a few of the pics my father and I took (including 1 with Lt. Rice posing in front of his signature under the deck lid) from our trip and scan the items that he signed. I provided Lt. Rice a framed print with 6 different photos of his old SSP Mustang showing the progression from MSHP in-service back in 93-95; to its time as a DARE car with Cottleville; what it looked like when I purchased it; as well as how it looks today. He seemed genuinely appreciative and suspect it will get displayed in his office. I'll scan and post that print up on my Fotki site in the next couple days too. Thanks again...good times :D! |

While at MSHP HQ in Jeff City, Eric (Mustang Retriever) and I were interviewed for an upcoming article featuring my SSP in the MSHP Patrol News. I am a member/donor to THE MASTERS, which supports families of MSHP Troopers killed in the line of duty. With that membership I receive this magazine. Below is the article Eric and I were sent to proof for the MSHP Public Relations person. The issue should arrive sometime in June and I'll scan and share the acticle and picture that will accompany it. Some good positive publicity for our hobby.

Add'l input on the Video
Just dusting off this old thread to add some additional comments on the DVD video that features my 1993 MSHP SSP. Through correspondence with Lt. Rice, who was assigned to my SSP, I've confirmed the person in driver seat during the video is Sgt. J. D. Biram who was a Technical Training Advisor out of the Academy/GHQ. Lt. Rice confirmed it was his SSP, but didn't have a recollection of the video. He assumed they borrowed it given his proximate location to GHQ - Troop F - beign just a short distance up the road.
