I believe that car has been posted before. It really looks like a NICE car in those pictures. You certainly couldn't restore a SSP for that price.

In terms of the VIN, it's part of a 14 car batch of consecutive unit numbers.

He says if he doesnt sell it he will take it on vacation, but there is no reserve. Am I missing something?

At least he didn't threaten to part it out if it doesn't sell. :rolleyes:

that's because if the price doesn't get high enough, he will cancel the auction.

car is well known. Owned by Jim Dingle at PPI for awhile. He sold it with 300 miles years ago if my memory serves me correct.

Like the other "never in service" and "never owned by a government agency", cars this one is not nearly as desirable (to me) as a beat up 198k mile stang that was in service for years.

and yeh his threats to start driving the car on a vacation? really?? who cares? He even showed us it is insured.... lol.

It's a car and made for driving...I say drive it and enjoy it.

Sure an SSP like that would be cool to own, but having one that was inservice is much funner to own:)
One great thing about these low mileage cars is that they are excellent reference for restorations.

true true. I saved all the pictures to my computer. For reference down the road just in case. I'm sure i'm not the only one though! LOL!

I like how you can still see the overspray in the wheel wells. That car is gorgeous. The spare 10 hole looks amazing! Why did he replace the oil plugs in the pan though? Sounded odd to me... Maybe i'm missing something? And it was ordered though Texas. So who was intended to get this car originally? If TX DPS was supposed to pick it up would it not have been black and white mine or 03Cobra's? I guess it could have gone to another agency in TX. Still cool though! I would love to own it, but I like knowing a donut or two was scarffed down in mine. :)

Mesquite, TX PD originally ordered it.

the overspray is the crappy repaint of the quarter panel done by a dealership to repair some sort of damage (per the owners description) . It wasn't there from the factory.

Mike was it Mesquite. I was under the understanding it was Ft Worth PD or Arlington PD and they never took delivery. All there cars were white with a few autos according to a traffic officer that had one. But this is just rumor...... Wouldnt Mesquite have ordered from a Dallas dealership and not a dealer 45 miles away in Ft Worth...just me thinking outloud.

It's sold, assuming that the buyer is legit and follows through, of course. I'm glad to see a car like that fetch good money. A low mileage car is always going to go for more money, but I agree with Sam that it's the in-service history of a SSP that gives it that "something extra" not found in a civilian car. Even a Federal DSO 83-xxxx car with no tracible history is more interesting to me than a never-in-service SSP.

Yep, I was a member of Jim's Mustang Special Service Registry back then. I remember him putting it up for sale at $19k I think it was. I thought seriously about buying it then, but it would definitely have become a daily driver. It's my favorite combo of white with gray interior, auto, PW, PDL, just needs cruise.

I believe I even called him about it and also talked about an '88 NY SSP that was blue (not dark blue) with the black 10-holes and tan interior. It had more miles and would have worked better for my needs, but I didn't like the color combo. I'm a dummy!! I wonder where it is today...

I, too, have always known the white car to have been ordered by the Mesquite PD. Glad to see it still in such great shape.

that is a reasonable price for the car. Hopefully it will get a good home.
