It also says something about emblems being shipped without the car. Another form mentions leaving the lx emblem off the deck lid but it doesn't specifically mention the 5.0 emblems. I have several pictures of verified 1987's and they are all missing the 5.0 emblems.

Very interesting, a mixup of some kind it seems in either the ordering or at the factory. Here's another '87 shot w/o emblems:
