I think the Explorer (civilian) is essentially a crossover vehicle now and that is how it should be viewed. For anyone thinking it's going to be a tow vehicle...they are going to be seriously disappointed. Mark my words, this one will do well with the consumers.

I have the 4.0L V6 in my XLT, and it will only tow a small trailer. I would never consider hauling a car with my Explorer - it just wouldn't do the job. But I do agree that Ford should do well with this new SUV/crossover selling it to the masses.

It might do well with consumers, but I'll be shocked if it does well as a police vehicle; same goes for the Taurus.

"Purpose-built"....is a laugh.

I haven't quite figured that part either, Mike.

I think they are saying "purpose built" so they sound competitive with Carbon Motors...

Our Chief has now stated we are going to buy 6 to 8 CV's next year instead of the usual 3-4. We just going to garage them and put them on a warranty delay program. Our township has Ford certified mechanics so they will not even think of looking at Dodge or GM anytime soon. I imagine if by 2013 the Taurus has not proven itself we will switch manufactures...or just start buying more Expeditions.

Carbon doesn't even have a car to sell. They should be worrying about being competitive with the other OEMs who are offering RWD, V8 powered cars AND trucks.

I hope orders for the last of the CV double or even triple.
