you are correct in that ford ecu's don't have a removable chip but you can add one via the service port on the ecu. no need to do any swapping. this applies to the eec-iv and eec-v ecu's. the eec-v ecu can accept a chip but it is far easier to just plug a programmer into the obd-2 service port for reprogramming (96 to 04 cars) only ones that won't accept one are the 05 up mustangs.
