Thanks for the pics. That looks to be a solid foundation for a resto. It's amazing how far from California some of these CHP cars get!

Thanks...It's got a perfect core support and inner fenders also. No sign of ever being bumped at all,That's pretty rare for any fox body... (The shop I got it from used the front clip for a ponystock car!!!) I just stuck some used parts on it so it wouldn't look so bad for now LOL. Cant wait to get started!!! Can anyone tell me what interior pattern came in a 90? Anybody got a airbag 160 certified speedo?

Nice find!

Checking the smog history on your CA plate, it shows passed tests in Palm Springs in 1997 and Oceanside in 1998. If you plug in your VIN here you may be able to pull up more history on your car:

Default update...

Started the tear down (finally...). Man, They sure used alot of sound deadener... It's still in great shape so I'm gonna leave it alone. My strut towers and underhood area was shot with what appeared to be spray can primer. Once I started removing it I found it to be painted the UA black, same as the body.It had a good shine still, so It appears they did'nt slack off on the clear like the regular production stangs. My quarter glasses were blacked out I'm assuming this is something a previous civilion owner did? When I removed the quarter glasses there was still tape in under the glasses and the rear glass trim from being masked off. appears the top was sprayed first then mask off to spray the black. Looks like they assembled the glasses and trim then unmasked it? One thing that's puzzling me is the cross brace behind my back seat was removed. I see no reason for this... Is anyone elses missing the brace to, or is this something that needs to be put back. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated...

I don't recall ever seeing any in-service Mustangs with tinted rear windows but you never know. There's a good chance yours served the in a desert area and sometimes this was done to units in those areas to help keep the interiors cool. It was also a popular "mod" in the day with civilians though so the odds are it was done by a subsequent owner. Ditto with removing the rear seat brace...probably done to stuff more "beats" back there (sub-woofers and all that crap). The CHP did not remove them as part of their upfitting so I'd find a replacement and put it back in.

There is another tantalizing possibility here too. Over the years, the CHP did convert a number of Mustangs that were fully or almost fully runout to undercover investigation units. This typically involved repainting them in a popular civilian color and outfitting them with nice wheels, sound systems and other goodies to help make them blend in the mainstream of the day. But to prove your car was one of these, you'd need some good documentation like the unit's Assignment Card.

Keep posting progress pics!
