To get links, pictures, etc. to show up in your post your Message Editor Interface setting in your User Control Panel has to be set to "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing" (WYSIWYG = what you see is what you get, pronounced "whizzy wig").
I personally don't like that setting. I like the standard editor. Ctrl + A = Select All Ctrl + C = Copy Ctrl + V = Paste Ctrl + X = Cut Ctrl + Z = Undo
