Default Length of service

Can anyone tell me how long the CHP kept their SSP's in service? According to Carfax, my 88 was retired in 98 w/95,000 miles on it and my 86 was retired in 96 w/96,000 miles on it. If I remember right someone said CHP retired by mileage not years. Doug

Like Rich's car, my car was retired "early". Here's a copy of my Assignment card -

So mine was sent to auction after only 18 months of service and 83,530 miles. Note my card says "wreck". The front bumper cover of my SSP had been replaced prior to the silver metallic repaint, and the rear passenger 1/4 panel had mud an 1" thick in spots (glad that's gone!).

Doug,

My '82 was the same as what the guys above posted...only a couple of years. Something about them having them for that long doesn't seem right.
